------------------------------------------------------- Tackling Power Crisis in Telangana ------------------------------------------------------ Steps taken by the Telangana government to alleviate the power crisis To improve the power situation, the government of Telangana formed on June 2nd has initiated a number of short term, mid term and long term steps . 1. An agreement has been reached with Penna Cements, Thermal Power Tech and Sree Cements for the purchase of 2000 MW. This will be available for Telangana within 29th May of 2015. 2. The government of Telangana has invited tenders for 500 MW of solar power. The tender process has elicited a enthusiastic response from several private organizations. 3. The government has invited tenders for the procurement of 2000 MW for a period of seven years, on the 10th of Oct 2014. 4. More than ten organizations have come forward to supply power at various levels from May 2015. The government has made an agreement to buy electricity from these organizations. 5. Since the formation of Telangana government, the administration has spent Rs 310 crores for the procurement of 539.27 million units of power that has been available, through power exchanges. 6. The Central government has been supplying 100 MW since August 1st of this year and will continue to do so until March 31st of the next year. 7. The government has procured 100 MW from the GMR Company . 8. The government has invited tenders to procure 500 MW from November 1st of this year under the short term scheme. 9. The government of Chattisgarh has agreed to supply 1000 MW of power to Telangana .The power will be transmitted once the corridor with Chattisgarh has been made available. 10. A 6000 MW power plant is being established through Telangana GENCO and another 4000 MW power plant by NTPC. The power generated will be made available within the next two years in a phased manner.
