------------------------------ Political parties united in defying CIC directions: ADR ------------------------------ ---> Political parties claim to bring transparency in governance, but wish to stay away from it in their own party setups ---> Political watchdog Association for Democratic Rights (ADR) has said parties were united in defying the directions of Central Information Commission(CIC), which had held that six national political parties were public authorities as per the RTI Act and should appoint public information officers (PIOs) for supplying information. ---> CIC could not get its order complied in the last year and a half as these parties had been consistently defying its directions. ---> matter would again come up before the CIC on January 7 on the pleas filed by three RTI activists in which they had sought that the commission should levy fine and also order compensation of Rs 5 crore. ---> The six parties for whom the order was passed included Congress, BJP, CPI, CPI (M), BSP and NCP. These six parties have neither complied with the order of CIC passed on June 3, 2013 nor they have challenged it, ---> Such open defiance of the orders of a statutory body and that too without seeking any relief from an appropriate forum is a very serious issue as political parties sermon others to abide by the law. This has a detrimental effect on the functioning of democracy in the country. People are getting the impression that political parties are above law timesofindia.indiatimes/city/chandigarh/Political-parties-united-in-defying-Central-Information-Commission-directions-ADR/articleshow/45746943.cms
