--------------- Mbabazi vs. Kayihura---Brace yourselves #Uganda--------- The bad blood between Amama Mbabazi and Gen Kale Kayihura has worsened with the Prime Minister now sternly warning of “strong measures” against the police boss for arresting the former’s supporters and relatives in Kanungu during the weekend. The rights of our people cannot be violated by those who are meant to protect them, charged Mbabazi on the floor of Parliament Wednesday afternoon. The Premier expressed shock that Kayihura stormed his constituency in Kanungu District where he ordered the arrest of four individuals “who are close to me.” Ali Rugomwa, Drake Atukunda, David Turyatemba alias Kihembe and the Aziz Nuwamanya appeared before Chief Magistrates Court which sat in Kanungu Town on Monday afternoon for reportedly burning down a leisure park belonging to a supporter of President Museveni’s 2016 sole candidature. They were released on bail by Rukungiri Chief Magistrate Alex Agig. Court heard that on the July 15, 2014 at about 11:00 pm the accused burnt to ashes the Western Amusement Park belonging to Benson Karabareme, destroying property worth millions of shillings. They denied the charges. The suspects’ lawyer, Saverino Twinobusingye pleaded for his clients’ bail, saying they “did not have a criminal record” and that they were “law abiding citizens.” He affirmed the suspects would continue attending court sessions. Speaking in Kanungu District during the weekend, Kayihura said he would “leave no stone unturned” in investigating the masterminds of the inferno. Kayihura further revealed he was under instructions from President Museveni who received a complaint that his supporter had come under attack. Mbabazi furious The arrests have since angered Mbabazi, saying he will not allow Police to continue rounding up his supporters. “I am aware that the IGP visited my constituency and people were arrested;” said Mbabazi, adding, “it happens that the people who were arrested are close to me.” “I am taking serious measures to make sure that the rights of our people are not being violated by those supposed to protect them,” vowed Mbabazi. “The police should be careful in the way the carry out their arrests,” he added. It should be noted that Mbabazi’s supporters were recently rounded up in different parts of the country with police saying they had plenty of evidence implicating them in acts of bribery and other cases bordering on subversion. The case was thrown out after the intervention of President Museveni. Museveni later warned the youth at State House Entebbe he would not rescue any of the NRM youth if re-arrested for conspiring against him. Chimp political analysts argue that this is the first time Mbabazi is openly blasting the police leadership over arrests of his supporters. Mbabazi’s wife, Jacqueline at one time accused Kayihura of “using thugs” to frame her husband in political activities aimed at sabotaging Museveni’s 2016 presidency. She further said Kayihura was more interested in political work than concentrating on the equally challenging police responsibilities. Who is Karabareme? Karabareme stole the show a few weeks ago when he handed a plaque to Museveni, saying the businessmen in Kanungu fully supported the President’s sole NRM candidature in the 2016 elections. NRM leaders in the district had resolved to support Mbabazi against Museveni. This sparked off a row between businessmen and political leaders in Mbabazi’s hometown. Karabareme insisted that businessmen in the district want Museveni to stand as NRM sole candidate in the upcoming presidential elections. Kayihura promised to provide him security for his family and string of businesses in the area. See more at: chimpreports/index.php/news/25744-mbabazi-warns-gen-kayihura.html#sthash.uV11mHje.dpuf
