- - - - - - just in case folks didnt get the memo - - - - heres the full Hell Texas bio yall - - - - Taz Bentley, drummer for Reverend Horton Heat, Izzy Stradlin, Duff McKagans Loaded, Tenderloin, and Burden Brothers drops his sticks and straps on a guitar as the front man for Hell, Texas. We know Taz for his ability to damage the drums with aggression and abandon, driven by his true rock and roll heart. So, on first listen, we expect the music of Hell, Texas to be a whiskey soaked locomotive exploding with sound and fury, and driving on the verge of derailment! We are greeted instead with a tonic: rich in soft driven melodies, dynamic with aching sorrow, and suffused with love. These are tunes that ebb and flow, delivering swells reminding us of their rock and roll heart, that never lose their subtle Americana body. Taz sings songs infused with words of love, loss and life. Joining Taz is high school friend and fellow Texas music alum Kenny Withrow (Edie Brickell and New Bohemians, Everlast). Kenny lays his poetic, free form style of picking perfectly atop this music with effortless precision. His touch adds a bluesy soulfulness commanding attention while allowing the melodies to breathe. On bass is Spyche. Having played in such bands as Press Mob, Rumble, and The Gorehounds, she is also an accomplished solo artist. With music roots in D.C., S.D. and Dallas, she brings an understated depth to her craft (and she has the voice of an angel to add to the mix). Rounding out this four piece is drummer Aaron Lyons (Darren Kozelsky, Slow Roosevelt). Taz would have nothing less than a powerhouse drummer to push his music, and Aaron Lyons is just the ticket. Aarons history of drumming in both country and rock and roll bands allows him to fit perfectly into the music. His technique is both strong enough to walk on and soft enough to swim through. Hell, Texas has been called The Soundgarden of country music and the Americana Zeppelin, labels the band both respectfully laughs off and enjoys. All we know is that Hell, Texas is a place we want to visit time and time again. Perhaps one day well take up root there... reverbnation/helltexas
