She is hesitant and indeed refuses to promote the webpage herself, thus I have appointed myself as her public relations consultant and am doing the promotion for her. :-) Kate Ong-Simpson was my classmate (Finance and Accountancy Program) at De La Salle University. (She was president of the university’s Honor’s Society, later on becoming a CPA, and now lives in the UK.) With her husband Derek, Kate is raising three very beautiful kids: Nikki, Netty, and Cam. To instil in her children a sense of profound kindness and devotion to their Filipino heritage, Kate started this project of raising funds for the victims of typhoon Yolanda, by creating and selling badges (for £1 each), and her “sales executives” are her children. For starters, Cam will be selling the badges to his classmates in school, with the blessing and support of the school’s administrators. [The three children, just like their parents, are very beautiful inside and out, and are very bright. Nikki and Netty, just like their Mom, are stunning beauties, and have even graced the covers of magazines. Cameron, on the other hand, is an Altar Server (or as we say in the Philippines, an Altar Boy), indeed he is a member of the Guild of St. Stephen, an international organization for Altar Servers of the Catholic Church.] The FB page was set up by two of Kate’s closest friends, a couple – Kevin and Sanz Bridge. British nationals (although Kevin is of Russian descent), they have expressed their compassion and empathy for the Yolanda victims through very concrete ways, and one of which is precisely the setting up of the FB account with/for Kate. On that note, let me say to them, “On behalf of all Filipinos, thank you very much Kevin and Sanz. May God bless you back a hundredfold.” The badge itself was designed by Kate’s younger brother, John. Clearly, devotion to God -- concretely expressed though charity – runs in Kate’s family. [Kates baby bro, John Burtkenley T. Ong, PhD (University of Nebraska), is a committed Christian, and is the pride of Ateneo and Xavier ateneophysicsnews.wordpress/2010/07/29/ateneo-physics-alumnus-john-burtkenley-ongs-acceptance-speech-exemplary-alumni-awardee-of-xavier-school-for-2007/ ] Most of us here obviously cannot buy the badges ourselves, because we live thousands of miles away from Kate, in various parts of the world. But I beseech you nonetheless to at least support Kate and her team of Good Samaritans, by perhaps doing the following: 1. “Liking” her page, to affirm and assure her that she is doing the right thing, indeed it is a great thing. 2. By spreading the word about her project. You may even have friends who live within the same vicinity in the UK as Kate, and may therefore be able to purchase and/or help her promote the badges. 3. Or for all I know you may actually even be able to figure out a way to purchase and/or help promote the badge yourself, even if you live thousands of miles away from Kate.
