--- Mels Hole --- Mels Hole in Ellensburg, Washington is perhaps the most supernatural hole in the world. If the urban legends are to be believed. Fifteen years ago, a story about a mythical bottomless hole in Washington was broadcast on American radio. A caller going by the name Mel Waters reported his investigation of a nine-foot-wide hole somewhere on Manastash Ridge. Its whereabouts are unknown. Those who perpetuate the myth cannot, or will not, reveal the exact location of the fabled hole. While on the radio, Waters claimed that a rural resident tossed his dead dog into the hole only to see it come out of the woods alive later on. He said he lowered a weighted fish line down the hole, and he ran out of several reels of heavy line at more than 80,000 feet without it touching the bottom. He also claimed that others had seen a black beam coming from the hole and still others claimed portable radios held close the hole’s entrance would play programs and music from the past. Metal held close to the hole’s 9-foot diameter opening would change into other metals or substances. There are believers; there are debunkers. And then there is... the hole. Or, is there? --- Lilith
