-- CAUSATIVE -- Hi, there! I received two questions about causative yesterday. Well, let me try to answer it. What is causative? Causative is when you have someone do something for you (menyuruh). Here are the Causative verb: - Have - Make - Let - Get And this is the pattern: Subject + Causative Verb (have, make, let) + agent + verb base + Object. For instance: I have the mechanic fix my car. She makes me do her homework. Jono let Tio go to the party alone yesterday. Another pattern: Subject + get + agent + to infinitive Roni got his brother to drive him to school. You have to rememember that we can use any tense in the causative verb. Have, make, let, get. What is the difference? How do we use it? Well, it depends on the nuance. -Have: it means, you give someone the responsibility to do something. She has the hair dresser cut her hair. (why? Bcs its the hair dresser responsibility. She has been paid) The principal had the councelor call Andis parents because Andi beat up his friend yesterday. -Make: you force someone to do something for you. Mrs.Rahman has made her son wash the dishes (why? Bcs Mrs.Rahman has authority to force her son to do that) -Let: you give someone permission to do something. Ms. Lia let Joe go home early. -Get: you persuade somebody to do something for you. The students have got the teacher to postpone the test because they havent been ready yet. (the students used their innocent facial expression to persuade their teacher)
