-- Captain America: Winter Soldier -- Dani and I caught the afternoon showing at out local dollar theater (actually three dollar theater, but you get the idea). Ive noticed something about super hero movies, and that something is this: The second installment of a multi-movie series seems to the best of the lot. Superman 2, Spiderman 2 (Raimi series), X-men 2, Batman 2 (Burton/Schumacher series), Batman 2 (Nolan series), Iron Man 2 . . . okay, maybe not that one. I very much liked Captain America 2. Its, more or less, the Captain America movie I would have made. Ive always thought that Captain America, in a modern setting, is less a Spiderman type of hero, beating up thugs and crooks, and more like James Bond, saving the world from maniacal would-be tyrants with a liberal dose of face punching. Winter Soldier goes there. Good: 1. Steve Rogers character is a little more fleshed out. 2. Hydra 3. The Falcon 4. Black Widow returns and is a little more fleshed out. 5. Fun. Bad: 1. Action sequences that were a little too much towards the end. In the first Captain America film, the first two acts were great, but then the wheels fell off in the third. This one doesnt.
