-- Caution urged as two men in van approach children and offer sweets -- Three suspicious incidents of two men in a white van approaching children and offering them sweets has been reported in Irthlingborough. Police are appealing to witnesses to these incidents where they have also asked the children to get in the van. Sergeant Andy Maher said: “We are making enquiries to establish exactly what has taken place. I would urge parents, carers and children to remain vigilant and ask anyone who witnesses any suspicious behaviour to call us on 101 or 999 if a crime is in progress. “We would also urge anyone who may have witnessed the three reported incidents to contact us as soon as possible on 101.” It is believed the two men could possibly be driving a white transit van. The first incident happened at around 5.30pm on Wednesday when children aged six to eight were approached in the pocket park in Allen Road. The second incident happened at around 4.05pm on Thursday when two teenage girls were approached in College Street. The third incident happened at around 8.10am yesterday morning when a 13-year-old girl was approached as she crossed Wellingborough Road, opposite Whitworths. Safety advice has been given out by the schools and the police presence has been increased in the area. Officers are working to establish the full facts of what has taken place and would like to reassure members of the public that no children have been taken by the men. Witnesses to these incidents, or anyone with information, should call Northamptonshire Police on 101 - alternatively, information can be given anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
