-- Patience for patients -- Sometimes its hard to be patient. You would have given your all out best to expedite everything for your patient so that they are well taken care of. Today i was informed that i was not patient, professional enough, uncaring and it was topped off with some nasty racist comments. Even then i kept as quiet as i could and expedited care. I was very close to shouting, but didnt not because i feared a complaint letter but because i was taught by my parents to be respectful. There must be a line drawn. Before you choose to open the machine guns and fire aimlessly, think for a moment. You are not feeling well and we may not understand it, let alone be in your shoes; but we are working intensely hard to help you in every way we can. Junior house-officers do not treat their patients as lab rats, let alone poke for fun. Kindly pause and think first. Also do not scold a male house-officer for not knowing how labour pain is supposed to feel. We will not experience it in this life-time. I have also come across patients who take great pride in saying how they kick junior house-officers out of the room, cos they dont want these in-experienced doctors. The consultants taking care of you were also once junior doctors. If thousands of patients before you had not given them this chance, they would not be here today. Having said all these, i have seen how some patients have been extremely kind and supportive even when we have missed the plug a few times. Thank you for having faith in us.
