---Pre-K Science Through Weather We have been working on our ongoing study of weather. We started discussing cold weather right after we came back from break since winter seems to have arrived! I asked the children what they think winter weather is like? K: too cold, and you need a coat or a sweatshirt. L: snow and cold. You have to wear a coat because its really cold and you can build a snowman. W: its snowy, and you roll your window down to see if you need a coat, if its brrrr you need a coat. Kn: winter is when its snowing and there are snowstorms. If its cold you have to wear a jacket, boots, snowsuit and a hat to keep warm. M: Im going to make snow angels and a castle! You need a coat, gloves and boots. S: it snows, and you can make a snowman. C: wintertime is cold and it snows and the cold makes ice. Icicles keep dripping on to the snow. Today we made salt paintings by painting on dark colored paper with heavily salted water and the salt should remain when the water dries causing an ice looking effect :) Kn: I made a baseball because my brother likes baseball. K: I made 2, one with flowers and one of a ball. C: a ship from outer space! Mn: mine is a big rock! L: I made a creepy snowman, and he has a magical wing. S: I made mommy. M: my painting is a map. You also have likely noticed by now we have our curtains closed in the classroom, this is because we are currently in our own igloo! The curtains are providing the same insulating properties as snow and ice would in an igloo. We have been talking about igloos and how they are built and how they help to protect people in the arctic region by blocking the bitter cold wind similar to the negative temperatures we have had here lately. zoo phonics: we are currently reviewing all of our animals to help re-enforce the letter sounds, and we will be beginning to connect the animals to the lower case letters and begin writing practice with lower case letters as well.
