---The creation and attachment to the “hunter-gatherer” Indian - TopicsExpress

---The creation and attachment to the “hunter-gatherer” Indian was a colonial construct designed to dis-empower Native peoples and disregard Native intellectualism, Native history, Native ideas, and Native political organization. Anthropologists and Archaeologists became the “experts” and “authority” on Native Americans. They were depended on as expert witnesses and their theories and “findings” were given more weight and consideration than that of tribal peoples. Anthropological designations and findings were used to justify removal, genocide, enslavement, and assimilation policies. The way that people wrote about and talked about Native peoples mattered. “Scientific” designations like “primitive” or “pre-historic”, “wilderness,” or “hunter-gatherer” created and maintained a certain image of Native peoples and their societies which allowed the United States to justify the atrocities committed against Native people.--- Working on an article today...write, write, write.... #HunterGathererMotherFatherFriendScientistArtistPhilosopherDoctorLawyerLoverFighterDancerSinger #AllOfTheAbove
