-- USE OF FORCE -- YOU -- The LAW -- and SELF DEFENSE -- At Illinois Protect and Conceal, our coursework goes above and beyond when it comes to scenarios involving not only concealed carry, but also the topic of self-defense. While self-defense is everyone’s right, Illinois Law defines the use of force as such: Sec. 7-1.Use of force in defense of person. (a) A person is justified in the use of force against another when and to the extent that he reasonably believes that such conduct is necessary to defend himself or another against such others imminent use of unlawful force. However, he is justified in the use of force which is intended or likely to cause death or great bodily harm only if he reasonably believes that such force is necessary to prevent imminent death or great bodily harm to himself or another, or the commission of a forcible felony. As you can see from the law, there is a distinct difference between the use of force in self-defense, and use of force resulting in a lethal encounter. With the implementation of concealed carry, it is imperative that you know and understand the difference.
