- According to Pallo Jordan, The great tragedy of Black Consciousness Movement was that it was never able to gather and retain much support beyond a narrow band of African intellectuals. It (BCM) lost momentum as many of its adherents joined the ANC in 1976. True, but I (stand corrected) dont think when Pityana, Biko and others formed BCM had a political party in mind. More than anything, their vision was the emancipation of mental slavery, change in attitude and outlook of the black oppressed and marginalised. They had no tender, an army of bodyguards and a fire pool in mind.
