We work in over 120 countries, helping children in the world’s most impoverished communities. Save the Children’s programme in Egypt supports work at local and national levels in the areas of protection, child survival, children’s participation, child labour and migration, and emergency response. We work to ensure that children’s rights are respected, protected, and promoted. In response to the growing number of Syrian refugees in Egypt, Save the Children is working with communities and local organizations to establish and operate Child Friendly Spaces in two locations (6th October City and Obour City) to ensure that Syrian children’s wellbeing and development is promoted and protected. Child Friendly Spaces (CFSs) provide children with protected environments in which they participate in organized and structured activities to play, socialize, learn, and express themselves as they rebuild their lives. CFSs are designed to protect children from physical harm, psychosocial distress and to help them continue learning and developing both during and immediately after an emergency. CFSs help minimize educational disruptions by providing children with an environment in which to continue with basic learning and develop positive coping strategies , CFSs also provide an environment in which child protection issues and concerns may be identified and addressed. Position Description The Child Friendly Space Supervisor/Monitor ensures that the activities are properly implemented at the child friendly spaces, pursues opportunity for improvement, and co-facilitates activities with the facilitators. Roles and Responsibilities • Work with CFS Facilitators to ensure activities are implemented appropriately; • Ensure that the Safeguarding standards are understood and met by all staff members and volunteers; • Ensure a safe and child-friendly atmosphere exists at all times; • Monitor equipment inventories and prepare request for replacement needs for the CFS Coordinator; • Ensure that health and safety regulations are understood and followed and that health and safety incidents are logged; • Assist the facilitators in solving problems arising in the child friendly spaces; • Assist Facilitators in working with children to develop new, creative activities as appropriate and based on observations and identified needs; • Ensure equal participation of all children; • Assist the facilitators in conducting parents and community meetings; consult with parents, caregivers, elders, children and other family members for available resources in the community; • Ensure adherence to the child protection policy and reporting procedures; • Screen for and monitor protection needs in and around the child friendly spaces. Qualifications: • A relevant university degree. • A minimum of 3 years of experience in working with children in general and refugees in particular. • Demonstrated experience in implementation of psychosocial support interventions with children/ refugees. • Good command of English, Fluency in Arabic is also (required). • Excellent interpersonal skills are required. • Demonstrated ability to work effectively both as a team member and independently is required. • Excellent facilitation skills.
