- Devil (2010). From producer M. Night Shyamalan, this film follows the story of 5 people trapped in an elevator, when one by one, each person is killed in a mysterious way, and its up to a local police officer to solve the case. Sounds very much like the set-up of an Alfred Hitchcock film, but unlike a usual Hitchcock suspense piece, this movie predicates itself on a more supernatural presence. Its unfortunate for the movie that it is titled Devil, because by calling it that, there is virtually no mystery as who is committing the atrocities that befall our main characters. That being said, even though we know what is causing the terror, the movie provides a very well put together string of suspenseful moments that will no doubt entertain audiences. Sure, the characters are more caricatures rather than real people, and the movie comes with its fair share of awkward dialogue and cheesy moments that befall a Shyamalan film, but it doesnt distract from the fun and suspense the movie does offer. Not a great film, but in my opinion is an underrated one, and certainly better than many of Shyamalans more recent efforts (although The Happening is hilarious). I give it a solid recommend.
