- Diary of a Daredevils Dad - Some of you may have heard recently that our young hero this past week accompanied his Mom on their annual bicycle camping trip. Now in years past Cooper has had his bike of course but was not expected to ride more than a few miles of the 40 mile trip (thats one way), and when he tired he would load up with his Mom and they would trail his bike the rest of the trip. Not...Any...More! This year he rode the entire 40 miles, 80 miles actually, under his own steam...with a front rack and a reasonable load for an 8 year old. Wow. To say I was impressed is an understatement. So upon his return I asked the man the secret to his success. Lets have a listen in, shall we? Cooper Fox: Hey Dad! I rode the whole way on my own, and I didnt even get tired! Hawk Durham: Whoa! Who is the Man? Im not surprised but please tell me more. CF: Well I did like Mom asked and pasted (paced) myself. HD: And did you keep drinking water? CF: YES! AND...I had these! (He holds up a pair of ordinary bike gloves) HD: Bike Gloves? I ask. And how did those help? CF: Because these were Moms gloves so they have her Grown Up Actuality in them HD: Oh yeah, I kinda get that, I say. It made you feel more grown up to ride with your Moms gloves. CF: Well sort of...what I realized is that I have Grown Up Potential! Oh, hes got potential all right... I wanna eat this kid with a spoon. From my place at the table...in sugar shock. ~ Hawk Durham
