--I would-- I think of you in the morning light, Your gleaming eyes in my consciousness. You may not know this familiar face Has feelings for you so bottomless. I write to you a dozen letters Of devotion that are never sent. My poems scratched and lyrics tossed, Im overwhelmed with burning laments. Forgotten friend, forbidden love, My heart crestfallen, stricken despair. Yet when I hear that you are well I grow fine wings, soaring in air. Affected by movements you make, I walk on clouds and wade through fire. But this madness, this ceaseless wait Will never your hand in mine acquire. The charm the whole world sees in you At times maliciously inflicts you scorn For you alone are the true beauty That angels wish, their hope forlorn. I may remain unnoticed nothing, This soul bereft and broken aside, I may stay hidden from your dazzling eyes, You may not see the tears Ive cried, But I would grieve a thousand years And journey for a thousand miles. No skies too wide, oceans too deep If I could only see your smiles. November 13, 2013
