*-Judge Ahler hands down sentence in abuse case -* After more than two hours of testimony by witnesses in the McDaniel/Rumback case in which the two were charged with the abuse of McDaniel’s 5 week-old infant in January of 2014, Jasper County Superior Judge James Ahler handed down his sentence to the defendants. Ahler accepted their plea of guilty to the C Felony of Neglect of a Dependent, Resulting in Serious Bodily Injury. According to law, the minimum sentence for the charge is two years, the maximum sentence being eight years, and an advisory sentence of four years. Ahler sentenced both McDaniel and Rumback to seven years in the Department of Corrections, with two years suspended, to be served on formal probation. Both will receive 305 days credit for time served in the Jasper County Jail. Both will be required to attend parenting classes and a Values Improvement class, along with court costs and fines. sherrimorrison/postnews
