- Storm passes to the east and grazes the region - - Trick or treaters remain dry, but cold air coming- This morning we see the two ingredients that will eventually come together (phase) into a major Nor Easter on the map. Today temps have started out cold, with many locations dropping below freezing. Highs today will reach the low 50s with partly sunny skies. Tonight, clouds begin to advance ahead of the developing coastal storm with some showers developing late. By tomorrow we will have a rapidly deepening (cyclogenesis) Nor Easter passing to our east. Band of showers should creep into our region, although due to the storms track being to far east the heaviest precip should not impact our region. As the sun sets and the very deep low pressure system begins to pull cold air into its core, we will see temps in both the atmosphere and eventually the ground crash to below freezing. This is where the forecast becomes a bit tricky, if the precipitation shield manages to push into our region and remain long enough to meet up with the cold air, there is a potential for some snow flakes across our region. At this point areas along the NY and New England border, and the higher elevations of the Eastern Catskills have the best chance of seeing some snow. We arent talking serious accumulations, possibly a trace to a dusting of snow, with other areas only seeing some flakes with no accumulations. We will closely monitor the exact track of this developing storm, and how far its precipitation shield extends west towards are region. Any slight deviation in the storm track or western extent of its precipitation can still have impacts on the forecast. For now we are looking at nothing more than some bands of showers that may potentially end as snow showers. Winds will also increase in intensity Saturday into Sunday as the storm begins to crank offshore. This will help usher in the coldest air of the season thus far, with highs on Sunday struggling into the upper 40s. Important to note that this will be the second Nor Easter in two weeks to rapidly intensify off shore, and it may be an early indicator of the winter pattern starting to reveal itself.
