+-WARNING! +CAUTION + WARNING + CAUTION + WARNING -+ I write this to caution others of a very costly, $7000, lesson my daughter, Sarah Kit has learned in the past few months. This is about the danger and necessity of INSURANCE on motor vehicles in the community. It appears that many people drive and put their and other people property and lives at risk because of the lack of information on this issue. Sarah is a responsible young person whom worked hard to save money and pay for her car and sea lift costs. She received it last October by ship. It made her proud and created a sense of accomplishment as she did this on her own. It was the symbol of her independence and hard work. I was proud for her. On March 6 as she was leaving work at the airport she stopped at the stop sign before entering the main road. The weather was blowing snow and conditions were quite slippery. As she waited the fuel truck came down the hill, cut the corner short and this sent the truck into a tail spin. The back end swung around and the steel beam (that protects the back of the fuel truck in collisions) smashed through the front of the grill and damaging the radiator and engine. This is fortunate because if this mishap had been another 5 feet forward i would not have a daughter today. The police were called and since it was determined that Sarah had neglected to insure her vehicle their was little legal recourse for her other than suing the Coop in civil court. The FCNQ mechanic examined the vehicle and said repairs would cost $12,000. At this time, since it was their truck and driver whom were clearly responsible, they suggested verbally that they would take all responsibility for repair. To make a very long story short I will only say this. Since she did not have insurance the Powers That Be in the Coop have decided to give her only $4500. She has decided to accept this as a court trial would be long and tedious. If they think $4500 for something that is fair and demonstrates honor then I disagree. But I do think my daughters time, dignity and life are worth far more. Please be sure to inquire about and obtain insurance. It can mean your life - or somebody elses.
