--Yesterday was a good day. As we sat in Rabalais Seafood Resturant, sipping iced tea, we, Indy, Auntie Jeannie and me, we were a bit sad that Auntie Sandra could not come, not that she preferred going to her dentist, its just the way things work sometimes. For the sake of privacy, our meeting with Jay was a good one. Jay is a writer/journalist, from New York, being born in Eagle Butte South Dakota, a small town of ap. 2,100 people, and of that population 89%, give or take, are Native American. Jay is a traveled man, having not only visited here, our home, the deep south, or like I call it, the shadows, he, Jay has visited other countries as well. For two years we have been exchanging e-mail notes and messages with Jay, an exchange of cultures I reckon you could say, but also conversations of Family, promising an exchange of history, the end result being missed deadlines. Oh but better than pieces of paper sent thru the mail, is being able to sit, around the table, look each other in the eye, and guess what the next question may be, waiting for that delicious catfish and shrimp po-boy while we take another pull of tea thru the straw, to wet our whistle, so we can give an honest answer. Being adamant bout picking up the tab, little did Jay know that coonass ingenuity always wins out, as the tab was already paid before we broke bread. Sometimes even traveled men are surprised by what they hear, and when he asked how was it that the cost of the meal was paid before we ate, I simply said coonass ingenuity, he smiled and said he never heard that term, making a note in his folder. There was this local lady there also, sitting across from us, enjoying her meal at Rays, and after a few minutes she could not take it any more, asking, and again for the sake of privacy, was _ _ _ _ _ a Gautreaux ? Of course the answer was yes, and Jay was quite amazed at this lady for asking the question she did, and after a couple minutes of chit-chat the lady got on her phone, called someone, and said, guess what, remember when I told you about--LOL--Ya just never know whos listening huh, but at least people are listening. Jay wanted to see the Atchafalaya River as he had only read about it till now, so we took him there, then we showed him the town of Legonier, and coached him on how to pronounce it, and for a Northerner he did good, but I betcha what, I betcha a shrimp po-boy and a pull of sweet tea from Rays, I betcha Jay cant pronounce Legonier this morning. With promises of a return visit soon, he left. Yep----Yesterday was a good day----nuff said.
