~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 1) WHAT CAN YOU DO ABOUT RABIES? 2) HOW DO YOU STOP A RUNAWAY TRAIN? 3) HOW DO YOU STOP A RUNAWAY DONKEY? CARROTS AND DONKEYS ..... ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 1) WHAT CAN YOU DO ABOUT RABIES? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Very little actually. These Sufis are Sufists, not Sufis- some are not even Sufists , and there is nothing that you can do about it. I am, however, interested in an inherent assumption: the one behind the question - that one should either have to do anything about it, or that one could, indeed, do anything about it . . . I f we do try to do anything about it, we risk attracting large numbers of disenchanted former Sufists, who would hope at first that we could give them THE REAL T H I N G - bu t who would become doubly homeless, so to speak, when they found that one branch of the entertainment industry had closed down, and another failed to open up! If we can do anything about the imitation, it is to spread the information of the real. But our doing this depends upon the audience being prepared. The preparation involves a wideness of horizon and the intelligent use of the clear thinking methods which are already current in all present-day societies, though only lately coming into use in our area of interest. The negative attitude is to look at the imitators. 2) HOW DO YOU STOP A RUNAWAY TRAIN? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ This context dependent. If you are on the train, there are several options. If you are not the driver you may have the option to somehow gain the drivers attention, and mention to him that the train is in fact a runaway train. However, this may be hard for the driver to understand. In a similar manner to something Idries Shah explains in The Commanding Self, the speed , which represents many things, is unperceived to the driver. If he has any instrumentation at all, and it is highly doubtful, they are operating in one time-space we may say, while you are functioning in another. Therefore, the driver may not believe you, and without the necessary perception, may in fact slow the train down just enough to kick you off at the next station. In which case - you are not longer on the train. PHEW! Now the other passengers are in danger ... but they seem to be enjoying the ride, oblivious of both speed and the fact that they missed their stops many moons ago. Another option, if you are on the train is that you can PRESS the EMERGENCY STOP button, and bring the train to a grinding halt .... never a good thing. Very few people will welcome such an abrupt wake up call. They have been enjoying the scenery flashing past, content with the on board entertainment, which in this day and age includes all the wonders of modern technology. They are even fed and watered. And some have been on the train so long now that they have forgotten why they got on it in the first place. So, best advice is not to press the STOP button. Now, energy .... this is an interesting possibility. Can you somehow cut off the energy source, which is driving the runaway train? That might actually be possible, however, you open up another can of worms then, since the momentum is such that, like the chopped branch devoid of sap, the passengers will not be aware of this for a long time. Some not until their very physical deaths. A runaway train has a lot of momentum. A lot of steam. So best to alert the authorities, to let them know they are going to need some serious BUFFERS put in place to absorb and dissipate safely that amount of energy. 3) HOW DO YOU STOP A RUNAWAY DONKEY? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ This is a much easier proposition. The real difficulties arise when the donkey is actually driving the runaway train. To stop a runaway donkey all you need do is dangle a carrot. But even here there are problems. Most people, when they find themselves in a position where they are face-to-face with a runaway donkey, and please note some of them are very aggressive - the donkeys that is, not those faced with them, will actually dangle the carrot from a pole on the front of the runaway train. You do not have to be a genius to see the problems here, as the docile aggressive, donkey increases the speed of the train in a desperate attempt to get ever closer to carrot. But since he has a lack of perception, remember, the speed does not register, poor donkey spends his life chasing dreams. The real solution is to dangle a carrot from the platforms, if in fact the donkey is driving the train. Even though there is no perception of speed the donkey will register the carrot, and start to apply the brakes. Of course, docile as he is, he does not know what the brakes actually are, or how they work, but he has learnt that if he switches his foot from one pedal to another, the train magically slows down. If the donkey is not driving a runaway train then we are faced with a much easier proposition, however, dont forget that donkey can get very angry and aggressive, along with other negative traits. A potential solution is to reduce the energy fueling such negative traits. And for this, as ingenious as it may appear, we have an extremely simple solution indeed: YOU TIE THE CARROT TO THE DONKEYS TAIL! P.S To tie the carrot to the donkeys tail, you use two carrots. One held at the front to steady him , divert his attention momentarily, while you tie the other one to his tail. Insi and I have done it many times now. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
