#10 Little Red Riding Hood Here we are again, more time has gone by and I am still not incarcerated or tied up in the trunk of some car. So I put together this photo shoot in in the studio with a kind of little red riding hood theme. Simple lighting just two lights one White Lighting X3200 with a 10 degree grid up high pointing down at the wolf. By using a grid I am able to narrow the light beam to just the wolf’s head and not have a lot of spill light. A second X3200 on a 56 inch octobox was used as a main light. Again this was just the right size to cover the area and with the light moved in somewhat close I was able to take advantage of the light fall off so that the background would not be too bright. Remember when shooting with lights the closer the light to the subject the faster the light falls off. You can and should use this to your advantage when considering the background. Both of the 3200 strobes had the power level way down and metered with a Sekonic 558 meter. I never shoot without having a good site picture on my target. Oh wait that is for when I am doing something else. Anyway I always take a light meter reading or several before I shoot anything or anybody. The set had one model and one wolf. The wolf I had not worked with before. The Model I had worked with before and she is one of my favorites because she is not only very good at what she does but also has looks to die for. And even the wolf knew better than to mess with her. The set was built with two backgrounds and some thrift shop material. My fog machine was put to use in a number of the shots. I know some of you may be wondering why in the world would any one need X3200 mono lights and then power them down to 1/16 power. Really you can do this with a couple of speed lights. And you could. First of all my studio, my rules. Second I do some commercial work and needed the higher power for other jobs. Third let’s say some night after a few beers you are on your way home and realize as you walk past an ATM machine that it would be cool to have one in your garage. So you locate some heavy tow chain and what? You think you can drag that thing home with your riding lawnmower? A little wimpy don’t you think. It’s not like I am admitting to anything not me. But if I might have been there and done that I could say you would do better to find a construction site and borrow a front end loader. Not that I am admitting to having done that either. Now where was I? O yes I was telling you about using high powered lights at low power settings. Think about your recycle time on the strobes, the more you turn the power down the faster the strobe recycles. Remember when I said I also put my fog machine to work on this shoot? Well, that fog can roll out of the machine real fast and you might want three to ten shots as fast as you can get them before the fog starts crawling up your tripod. So there you have it being power hungry can pay off in several ways. My IROC makes a much better getaway car than my Chevy Tahoe. I mean if someone ever needed a getaway car, not that I would. I will post a couple of images from the photo shoot. Here is my (WIT) What I Think Here are the two steps to Total Business Success: 1) Never give away all your secrets. 2) Really if God is watching us, the least we can do is be entertaining. I generally avoid temptation unless I can’t resist it. Any resemblance between the above views and those of my employer, my terminal, or the view out my window are purely coincidental. Any resemblance between the above and my own views is non-deterministic. The question of the existence of views in the absence of anyone to hold them is left as an exercise for the second god coefficient. (A discussion of non-orthogonal, non-integral polytheism is beyond the scope of this article). Did you know the hypothalamus is one of the most important parts of the brain, involved in many kinds of motivation, among other functions? The hypothalamus controls the four F’s: Fighting, fleeing, feeding and mating. Right now I am having amnesia and deja-vu at the same time. I think I’ve forgotten this before.
