#10: Ooh La La by Faces For a song to be in my top ten, you would assume I would be an expert on the band it came from. But to this very moment of writing, I have not heard a single other song from Faces (that I’m consciously aware of). I’m more aware of the solo oeuvre of it’s lead singer, Rod Stewart, mostly due to the cheesy collection sets owned by various parental figures. But there is something about “Ooh La La” that just makes it one of the best songs ever written. It’s the universal truth of it’s chorus; “I Wish That I Knew What I Know Now, When I Was Younger”. Who doesn’t hear those words and NOT find something to relate to. We all have regrets, things we wished we could have done a little differently, but no matter how much foresight or planning we put into things, we are doomed to make the same mistakes over and over again; “You’ll Have to learn just like me, and that’s the hardest way”. Faces tapped into something truly universal with this song, which is why it resonates so much with me, even though I have no real desire to expand my knowledge of the group (Which I’m sure I will one day).
