#10 Watch planes fly in and out Karl and Cindy Sweisthal, partnered with Chris and Danielle Trunnell, would ensure this bucket list adventure would be taken to new heights! Karl Sweisthal, Frontline Manager at Philadelphia Airport Control Tower, welcomed little d and family for a day full of awe and wonder. As we arrived Karl ensured little d would be dressed appropriately for the tour and gifted him a pilots hat. Along with this adorable gear, little d received an airport toy set of which he clung to throughout the day. Karl and Dave Giberson (Air Traffic Control) shared their technical expertise, infectious enthusiasm and gentle kindness as they navigated our eager group through a flight simulator, control room and the pentacle of our tour; control tower! The excitement continued as Chris Mattie, Pilot of Sinder Airlines (Mr. Sinder is the Chairman of the Philadelphia Flyers), warmly welcomed us aboard an immaculate private gulf stream. Chris provided little d unlimited access in the cockpit where he squealed with delight for 30mins time. Upon our departure Chris and Sinder Airlines, presented little d with a Sinders Airline T-shirt and a genuine NHL Flyers Hockey Puck. We are now forever Capital AND Flyers fans for life! It was a short drive from Sinder Airlines Hanger to our next stop where we were greeted by the extraordinary men of the Philadelphia Firehouse. Chief Sweeny, Captain Tropiano and Mike Berry had prepared a special day for little d. He and the family would each have an opportunity to ride in a fire truck, among the runways, under the safe and friendly supervision of Prince Gilliard. Little d would also have the opportunity of playing in the equipment (his favorite past time thanks to the incredibly generous fire/rescue community along the east coast) but not until he changed hats. The Philadelphia Fire Department provided little d with a hat commemorating this wonderful occasion. Our final astonishing activity of the day was compliments of Jim Shramm, Field Technician. He placed the van we were in right next to the runway so we could watch the planes come in and out. I feel so gluttonous sharing this unbelievable opportunity little d and our family experienced. Karl welcoming us to the tower alone was an extraordinary gesture but the extended Philadelphia Airport community sharing their unique world with us… well there are no words. It has been almost a month and the memories of that day are ever present. They make my heart swell and eyes wet. We are so grateful of the efforts these wonderful men and women exhibit each day, but we will certainly forever cherish June 5, 2014. When you have a few moments please explore further details of our exciting day through photos in addition to Danny and Ashley’s previously posted. Danielle Tinurelli Trunnell and Ashley Sullivan
