NCRA division once again atop the famed half mile The Summer time classic continues: Current Bob Howard PDC and Mopar National Championship Racing Association of Park City, Kansas presented by Precise Racing Products point leader Todd Decker of Edmond, Oklahoma will lead a strong contingent of sport mod drivers from throughout the region to the prestigious O’Reilly Auto Parts Hutchinson Grand Nationals presented by Midwest Ford/Toyota of Hutchinson at the Kansas State Fairground sin Hutchinson, Kansas this coming Saturday night. The Hutchinson Grand Nationals champion in the sport mod division will not only get his name etched on the wall and a huge trophy but will also take home $1000 with second place earning $600 and third place $500. Just making the twenty car feature finale will pay $100. Decker, to 2010 tour champion, has one feature win to his credit, this coming at Elk City Speedway in Elk City, Oklahoma back in late May. He currently holds down a slim twenty-five point leader over Mark Harrison, who has made his presence known as a serious threat for the 2013 championship. The hottest driver on the tour thus far is Amarillo, Texas driver Brandon Smith. Sitting third in the point standings and 90 points out of the point lead, Smith has picked up the last two feature wins on the tour with the most recent this past Saturday night at 81 Speedway. He also has a win at his home track of Route 66 Motor Speedway. Smith hopes to become the second Amarillo driver to pick up the Hutch Nationals sport modified championship as Donny Raney won the tours inaugural appearance at the famed half mile back in 2009. Leading rookie contender Kenny Morris has posted consistent runs through the six races that have been held and currently sits fourth in the point standings, just 95 points out while Ross McCartney rounds out the top five in the standings. Six through tenth in the standings are: former tour champion Chad McNamara, Cleo Adams, J.D. Choate, Travis Johnson and Bobby McGehee. Other drivers expected to compete include; Robert Elliott, Chris Lyons, Courtney McCartney, Craig Ridgway, Kyle Choate and rookie contenders Steve Little and David Fisher. Close to thirty drivers from three states are expected. So far this season thirteen drivers have competed in all six events that have been held while two drivers have only missed one show. As mentioned, throughout the five year history of the tour, this division has competed at the Hutch Nationals four times. Previous winners include defending champion Caleb Edwards (who is not expected to compete), McNamara and Raney. Pit area check in opens at 3:00 PM; grandstand opens at 5:00 PM; hot laps start at 6:00 PM; Race time is 7:00 PM.
