$155,000 footpath to make Merrimac even safer Pedestrians in Merrimac will soon be even safer when walking local streets, with Member for Mudgeeraba Ros Bates announcing a new footpath will soon be installed on Gooding Drive between Mike’s Kitchen and Jura Parade. Ms Bates said she had been raising the issue with Main Roads since mid-2014. “I’ve been fighting to get a footpath installed between Mike’s Kitchen and Jura Parade so pedestrians can walk right along Gooding Drive and over the overpass to Worongary Town Centre,” said Ms Bates. “I’m pleased to announce that I’ve secured $155,000 to construct a footpath for this section of Gooding Drive, with construction set to begin in February. “The work will form part of a larger project to improve safety both for local pedestrians and vehicles entering and exiting Mike’s Kitchen. “This was the missing link for local residents trying to walk from Merrimac to Worongary, and many pedestrians, including young families, had to dangerously venture onto the road when cars were parked on the road shoulder. “This is a big win for Merrimac residents, and will see improved safety for pedestrians and motorists alike in our local area.” Merrimac resident Laura Liebenau said he was pleased to see progress being made. “It’s always been dangerous to walk along this section of the road from Jura Parade to Mike’s Kitchen, but it’s great to hear that we’re finally getting our footpath installed,” said Ms Liebenau. “Until now, pedestrians could walk along the length of Gooding Drive right up until the 200m section before Mike’s Kitchen. “We’ve just become a young family after welcoming our first child into the world, and this new footpath really will be a great addition to the local area.”
