• 1Co 1:10 Now I plead with you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment. • 1Co 1:11 For it has been declared to me concerning you, my brethren, by those of Chloes household, that there are contentions among you. • 1Co 1:12 Now I say this, that each of you says, I am of Paul, or I am of Apollos, or I am of Cephas, or I am of Christ. 1Co 1:13 Is Christ divided? Was Paul crucified for you? Or were you baptized in the name of Paul? • 1Co 3:2 I had to feed you with milk and not with solid food, because you couldnt handle anything stronger. And you still arent ready, • 1Co 3:3 for you are still controlled by your own sinful desires. You are jealous of one another and quarrel with each other. Doesnt that prove you are controlled by your own desires? You are acting like people who dont belong to the Lord. • 1Co 3:4 When one of you says, I am a follower of Paul, and another says, I prefer Apollos, arent you acting like those who are not Christians? • 1Co 3:5 Who is Apollos, and who is Paul, that we should be the cause of such quarrels? Why, were only servants. Through us God caused you to believe. Each of us did the work the Lord gave us. • 1Co 3:6 My job was to plant the seed in your hearts, and Apollos watered it, but it was God, not we, who made it grow. • 1Co 3:7 The ones who do the planting or watering arent important, but God is important because he is the one who makes the seed grow. • 1Co 3:8 The one who plants and the one who waters work as a team with the same purpose. Yet they will be rewarded individually, according to their own hard work. • 1Co 3:9 We work together as partners who belong to God. You are Gods field, Gods building-not ours. • God alone should have all the glory, as the seed is his, the ground is his, the laborers are his, and the produce all comes from himself. BIBLICAL REASONS WHY WE NEED TO BE UNITED 1. It is the answer to the Prayer of Jesus is the Garden of Gethsemane • John 17:21 My prayer for all of them is that they will be one, just as you and I are one, Father-that just as you are in me and I am in you, so they will be in us, and the world will believe you sent me. 2. We can’t be established unless united • Mark 3:24 If a kingdom is divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand. • Mark 3:25 And if a house is divided against itself, that house cannot stand. 3. There is blessing in Unity. • Psa. 133:1 Behold, how good and how pleasant it is For brethren to dwell together in unity! • Psa. 133:2 It is like the precious oil upon the head, Running down on the beard, The beard of Aaron, Running down on the edge of his garments. • Psa. 133:3 It is like the dew of Hermon, Descending upon the mountains of Zion; For there the LORD commanded the blessing; Life forevermore. HOW TO PROMOTE UNITY 1. Have a Christ-like attitude and behavior • Eph 4:1 I THEREFORE, the prisoner for the Lord, appeal to and beg you to walk (lead a life) worthy of the [divine] calling to which you have been called [with behavior that is a credit to the summons to Gods service, • Eph. 4:2 Living as becomes you] with complete lowliness of mind (humility) and meekness (unselfishness, gentleness, mildness), with patience, bearing with one another and making allowances because you love one another. 2. Make effort to promote unity Eph. 4:3 Endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. Eph. 4:4 This is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling; Eph. 4:3 Na pagsakitan ninyong ingatan ang pakikipagkaisa sa Espiritu sa tali ng kapayapaan. The greek word for ENDEAVOURING is spaudazo – to use speed, that is, to make effort, be prompt or earnest: - do (give) diligence, be diligent (forward), endeavour, labour, study. LOVE IS THE FIRST MARK OF A TRUE DISCIPLE OF CHRIST • John 13:35 By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another. • John 15:8 Herein is my Father glorified, that ye bear much fruit; so shall ye be my disciples. • To bear much fruit does not exclusively mean to have many soul won for Christ. Because fruitfulness covers a very broad aspects. • Are fruitful in good works; are faithful, zealous, humble, devoted, always abounding in the work of the Lord. This honors God. (Barnes Commentary) • …that ye bear much fruit; of doctrine, grace, and good works, which show them to be trees of righteousness, the planting of the Lord, and the work of his hands; wherein the glory of his power, grace, and mercy, is greatly displayed. All the fruits of righteousness, with which they were filled by Christ, were by him to the praise and glory of God; yea, by the fruitfulness of grace, and of life and conversation, by the lively exercise of grace, and conscientious discharge of duty, as well by light of doctrine, and usefulness in the ministration of the Gospel, the disciples and servants of Christ not only glorify God themselves, but are the means of others glorifying him. It follows,(Gill Commentary)
