#2 – Group Production Due dates Points Pre-Production Materials Varies (see below) 100 pts. Production Mar 6th 11:30-2:30 100 pts. Final Movie Edit By Mar 20th, 12:30pm 100 pts. Group Evaluations By Mar 20th, 12:30pm 25 pts. You will recreate a 3-4 minute scene from a movie by working with an assigned group of your classmates. The goal is to expose you to the organizational and aesthetic processes of a larger creative shoot. You will be critiqued individually and as a group, on your ability to: • Present a coherent pre-production plan (detailed below). • Fulfill your main assigned duty, and work together in an organized fashion to complete the shoot. • Edit your version of the scene together, trying to match the original Hollywood version. Due between 1/30 and 2/6 at 12:30pm – Scene Choices 1. Facebook me [email protected] (Prof-Scott STLCC). I’ll add you to the group (by 5pm TODAY). 2. Go to simplyscripts/a.html and find some scenes you’d like to shoot. a. Post a link to the script for us to read (page number needed, no teleplays). b. Find and link a youtube clip of the scene for us to watch. c. Consider the actors, locations, props, costumes, make-up, special effects, sound effects, music, etc. needed 3. Over the week, watch what other people post, like it if you want to shoot it. Due 1/30 by 3pm – Script Selection 1. Choose the scene (as a group) that you are going to recreate. 2. Casting Call - post at stlauditions, FV Theater dept., Craigslist (meh), facebook, others? 3. Start scouting locations, studying scene visuals/lighting/production design, recruit actors. Due by 2/6, 12:30pm – Art Direction Details 1. Conduct Auditions, Cast Actors 2. Submit completed Title Page, Synopsis and Locked Working Script Due by 2/13, 12:30pm – Art Direction/Misc. Pre-Production 1. Lock Location – Collect signed Location Release Form, Complete Floor Sketch. 2. Submit Screen Cap’s, Prop/Costume List, Breakdowns Due by 2/20, 12:30pm – Art Direction Details 1. CREATE IN CLASS = Marked-Up Script and Shot List 2. Submit Final Floor Sketch (indicate power outlets, unmovable objects and windows). 3. Beats Script Due by 2/27, 12:30pm – Director Details 1. Conduct rehearsals with actors, Submit Actor Release Forms. 2. Gear List - Gather list of needed gear, delegate pickup, reserve equipment 3. CREATE IN CLASS = Add blocking/lighting to Floor Sketch, Compose Shooting Schedule 4. Compose/Submit Actor Bios, Crew Bios, Breakdown Budget to me, and 5. Email Call Sheet to cast/crew/me. In Class 3/6 – Production (Shoot!) 1. Director should take time to review the script with the actors. 2. 1st A.D. should manage crew, keep the shoot on time by following pre-prod plan. 3. D.P.’s should practice shots/movements and double check camera settings. 4. L.D. should check lighting, working with D.P. (use gaffers/grips for trimming) 5. Script Supervisor should review shot list/script, help with setup/prod. design. 6. Audio should check levels, listen for ambient noise, make sure boom isn’t in shot. 7. Set Design & Production Design should set Props, Costumes, Location, etc. 8. Everyone should grip/gaff to help others, at direction of 1st A.D. Cut the scene together using FCP X (trying to match original edit). a. Start a new Event and Project (page 1, “Setting Up a New Project”). b. Import the footage into your event (page 2, “Importing Footage”). c. Lay the sync audio into the timeline. d. Lay each video clip over the top, and sync all clips up using the slate marker. e. Edit the scene to match the original edit. Refer to the original in your folder. f. Lay in an opening header card and ending rolling credits (page 5 “Titles”). g. Export as H.264 Quicktime, as “Name Filmmaking Group Shoot” (page 6 “Exporting”). 2. Burn a Data-Disc with the FCP project/event files, music/sound effects and H.264 QT Video. 3. Post Production Supervisor should burn a screener DVD, and make copies for all cast members.
