#20 Favorite Album / EP of 2014 - Shovels and Rope - Swimmin Time It’s fun to think about how I found out about a particular band or act. Shovels & Rope came to my attention when my beloved The Milk Carton Kids were nominated for the Emerging Act of the Year in the Americana Music Awards. On my Facebook feed, the Kids announced that they were very proud to see the award go to Shovels & Rope (who I’d never heard of at the time). Who’s this?! I asked. So I checked them out and quickly became a fan. They are a duo who I lazily describe as June and Johnny Cash meets White Stripes.
