* ************ 2014 Album of the Year (rev.) ************ * Within 24 hours of my latest white flag on LPs and declaration that there was no great album released in 2014 (see below), I heard DAngelos Black Messiah and was proven wrong. Ive been listening to it non-stop for two days. Its Walter Peyton running through your eight-year-olds little league team. Its a 18-foot hammerhead shark released into a coy pond. Its an M26 Pershing tank turning its guns on...well, you get the idea. Its a great record. Nobodys sure what DAngelo has been doing since he released his last LP more than 14 years ago. I think its obvious he spent a lot of that time listening to Prince records. Also copying Princes weird release schedule...who puts out a record 10 days before Christmas?
