#22 posted by Priyank Vbcv (EE) For my college, TCS gave the criteria that those who have scored over 75 % in tenth and twelfth boards and have a CGPA of 8.1 or more will directly be sitting for the Verbal round (i.e. writing the business mail). So, I was eligible directly for the Verbal round. For the Interview round, since my background was Electrical engineering, so I wasn’t asked in-depth questions from programming. I would like to share the questions they asked. 1. Tell me briefly about yourself – Mention about your current academics, family background in brief, major achievement, professional objective in life. 2. Then they asked me on why I am appearing for TCS with my background being electrical engineering ? 3. As they went through my CV and saw that I have written about elementary knowledge of C, C++, their next question was ‘Difference between C, C++ , features of C++, difference between C++ and Java’ 4. Then they asked me to describe about ‘Polymorphism, OOPS concept and Inheritance’ 5. They were actually getting into programming stuff (theoretical questions more) because I had mentioned that I studied C++ in 12th and I like programming and have interest in this field since school days. Next they asked me to write a program to find area of a square (Yes, very easy). They asked about all the various elements and concepts used in that small program, about header files, library functions, especially focused on Math.h and functions in it 6. Next they asked me about ‘Function overloading’ 7. After that since I answered above stuff correctly(almost all of C,C++ stuff) they asked me on whether I have knowledge of ORACLE or any DBMS software – I said ‘NO’ 8. After that their question was on ‘Tell me about your Novel. What is the theme and when you are interested in writing, Why do you wish to join TCS and go for a job’ – I gave an answer proving that it’s just a hobby, not to be a profession and convinced them 9. Then they said that you have mentioned about travelling, you like travelling? What kind of interest is this? Where have you travelled so far? – I said ‘yes’ and again managed to make them realize it’s also under a hobby 10. Their next question was that ‘when you will work on projects, you won’t get time for writing, how will you manage it then? 11. After this they said that we know few employees who also wrote a book when they joined a company but later they left it and got into full time writing. We have that chance for you as well, till you are not established in writing you might work with us but later you may leave. What is your say on this? – I had to again convince them for my words of why I need a job and won’t be quitting it and difference in my career in writing and as a professional working for TCS 12. Then they finally asked about ‘Location’ issue. Whether I am okay if they send me to Chennai? Then they told me about the Bond stuff regarding I am aware of that or not This was all about my Interview. Very normal questions, basics of programming (mainly theoretical) and then questions based on your extra activities and achievements!!! My best wishes to all of you who will be appearing for TCS Recruitment sometime in future! :)
