#30yearsin30days – Day 6 Krista and I spent the Friday with Luke, (OFS) Our Father’s Son, in (SFO) San Francisco. We got an early start and crossed the new Bay Bridge and headed into San Francisco. We started the day in Golden Gate Park and visited the California Academy of Science. We took in two Planetarium Shows – the one about earthquakes – which is fitting for Luke who was born in 1989 and survived the Loma Prieta Quake in the Bay Area. And we saw the premier showing of Cosmic Collisions. As with most “science” films you have to eat the orange and spit out the seeds, but the (SOF) Sound On Film graphics were great. I came out feeling with two thoughts – how very small I am in the Universe and how very great God is for creating all of it. We felt the effects of the 1989 and the 1906 earthquakes in the earthquake simulator, a small room the simulates the shaking. We headed down to Fisherman’s Wharf, Pier 39 and had sourdough bread bowl of clam chowder at Boudin Bakery at the Wharf. Thanks for the treat Luke. We saw throughout the day the (FOS) Fruit of the Spirit and we are so grateful for what God is doing in your life. We enjoyed a cruise of the Bay on the Blue and Gold Fleet which travels under the Golden Gate Bridge, circles back to Alcatraz and then finishes beside Pier 39. What a beautiful day on the San Francisco Bay with my bride and my favorite first-born son! You can’t leave San Francisco without hopping on board a cable car. If you are old enough to remember the Rice-a-roni commercials – that’s the cable car line we took – up the hill, stopping for a look down Lombard Street and up and down many of the steep hills of San Francisco. And here’s the secret – Rice-a-Roni wasn’t even made in San Francisco. It was made in San Leandro, just up the street from us. And now the Ghiradelli Chocolate “of San Francisco” – yup, that’s made in San Leandro, too. We finished the day with a drive down Highway 101 to the (OSF) Old Spaghetti Factory in Redwood City with the gang from AskUs! Then we headed back across the Bay to finish the night by showing some ancient pictures of Luke as a baby and young boy while his FSO (Family Support Operation) played games. We love our Luke William – named for two famous authors – Luke the Physician – writer of the Gospel of Luke and the Book of Acts and after William MacDonald an author, close personal friend, and colleague for many years. We pray that Luke will be a bringer of light to many.
