#30yearsin30days – end of Day 15 On year 15 of our marriage, Christine was born. The night she was born Krista began having contractions so we thought we would fill in the time by watching a movie – and what I remember is that we were about 20 minutes away from finishing the movie when Krista said – I think the baby is coming – we really need to go. We never did finish the movie, but the story that unfolded was much more interesting, really. We sped to the hospital and the nurse did a quick check and said – this baby is coming now! There was no time to get the doctor there and shift change was underway. The charge nurse called all the nurses into the room and we had 7 nurses attending the birth of our 7th child. At one point it became a bit of an emergency, but finally Christine was born. Due to a slight complication she had to stay at the hospital for a couple of days for observation. Now there were 9 of us in a small 5 bedroom home and a growing business with all the inventory coming and going. We had to find more space. So we began to look and Christine came with us whenever we would go to open houses. So today, after church, just for old times’ sake we visited an open house in the neighborhood. We took her to Elephant Bar Restaurant. She always orders chicken strips, but because she read my blog this morning she surprised us all by ordering their chicken teriyaki dish. Very funny Christine! Christine loves a challenge whether it’s school, reading, memorizing Scripture, languages (She’s taken courses in Cantonese, Mandarin and Spanish and seems to have a gift in this area). So our challenge to her was to take her rock climbing and I joined her in climbing one of the walls. She climbed 5 different walls. I did one. It was a fun afternoon. We came home and watched a movie where “Christine is the star”. We did not watch home movies this time – it was Phantom of the Opera where the leading character’s name is Christine. She received some fun presents like Skittles Socks, and a beautiful soft blanket that Krista made for her. Then we met up with her brothers and Sharon and Jake at the Ice Creamery to end the day. So, we come to the end of our individually planned days with our children. We love them all individually. They are all unique, special to us, and they fill our hearts with praise to the Lord for them. Children are a gift from the Lord. Blessed is the man who has his quiver full. The children are the fruit of our love for one another. They are the evidence of intimacy that cannot be shared on facebook or with anyone else. This is the beauty of marriage, and as the Lord said, “the two shall be one flesh.” We have many acquaintances. We have some friends. We have a few very close friends. And Krista and I share an intimacy that is reserved for each other alone. That’s the way it should be. Thank you Lord for the children you have given to us. And thank you Krista for the children you have borne for me.
