...31 Days/31 Horror Movies: Day Twenty-Three: Dolly Double Feature of Dolly Dearest and Pinocchios Revenge: ...most killer doll movies are, at the very least, scary by virtue of rather creepy looking dolls...even if the characters in the film dont necessarily think theyre so creepy, in the onset (...point in case, the recent entry to the killer doll genre, Annabelle...honestly, who would want a doll that looked like THAT??); however, if the butt-ugly doll is in the midst of a well written premise...well, thats a plus, all around (...Childs Play, the Zuni warrior fetish doll segment, in Trilogy of Terror, amongst others). In the case of both Dolly Dearest and Pinocchios Revenge...indeed, we have a couple of dolls, which are most assuredly creepy. However, while Dolly Dearest assumes a shoulder-shrugging standard, storywise...with ideas and concepts well used before...it is director Kevin Night of the Demons Tenneys modern day homicidal take on Pinocchio, which stands out greater, as far as these two scarefests...and its by virtue of the fact that the film is written up as more of a psychological thriller, rather than a horror film; indeed, even up until the tension-filled ending, it is left quite uncertain as to whether the doll protagonist in the film, is genuinely walking around, and subsequently killing, of its own accord. In this valley of the dolls, it is Pinocchios Revenge, which over and above wins out, in this grueling dolly tussle; Dolly Dearest...well, that one just seems to play it safe, in assuming itself, pretty much a Chucky knock-off.....
