(4.22) A testing time! Despite a brief but considerable downpour at 09:00 this morning the rest of the day just got climatically better and better. All of the chickens were showing symptoms of ‘cabin fever’ and they were let out, under strict supervision, for a scratch around the compost pile. The compost pile is largely garden waste, interlaced with layers of privet cuttings that are now beginning to show signs of life! I hand-cleared some of these cuttings out of the way so that the chickens could get at the insects underneath and, once they had feasted, the chickens looked at me quizzically until I cleared another section for them. Talk about laziness! The llamas, laziness animal’ified, were a pleasure, even Robbie when he decided that he wanted to ‘play’ with me. The ‘rough and tumble’ that followed was a lot of fun and even Old Misery Guts kept his regurgitant to himself! My brother and his son (my nephew) visited this evening and spent a little time up-close-and-personal with Robbie, who was welcoming, gentlemanly and gentle. Young nephew is staying the night and is looking forward to feeding times. He’s currently sparked out, and snoring, inside a sleeping bag! Long may the calm continue!! Waiting in for them, and having bought all the foodstuffs I needed on Sunday, I had no reason to leave the farm and spent the day just pottering about and weed whacking in the sunshine. The regenerative powers of some of the weeds in the field is remarkable, they are so determined to survive and prosper – but not in my field! The Business point? Expecting the worse but not actually getting the worse is a little disconcerting but if you are able to quickly take advantage of the situation, it can, sometimes, end up to be a bit of an eye-opener. It is fair to say that ‘you only get one chance to make a good impression’, but then some people unwittingly give you an opportunity to reconsider and give them another chance. Take it, and them - perhaps they will end up to be a better person. The Daily Llama
