I made this pendant from multiple layers of corrugated cardboard that was shaped and dunked in water-resistant laminate glue. There are 3 prominent layers that are hard to capture with the camera. I finished each shape with magazine ads that were hand-selected based on their color composition and imagery. I wanted black, white, gray, and blue colors that featured big city imagery. I was inspired by NYC. I found images of stone wall, skyscrapers, and metal framing. The pieces were laminated to cardboard and finished with multiple coats of matte finish. I added a high-gloss finish only to the blue-toned pieces that featured shiny skyscrapers. I finished the back with remnant fabric and hung this with black German wire to black, anodized aluminum chain. This is a durable piece that will last as long as any other, so long as you don’t swim with it at the beach. My colleague at Passion for Paper did a 12-hour dunk test with the same finish, finding no damage or water leakage when in a glass of water for 12 hours!
