#50dysto2014 general election. Debates; their structure, mode of operation, panelists, anchors/moderators, r they effective/relevant? Debates across all media spectrum are structured along what obtains currently, in other words along the BDP way of governing, which is by no means not the only method. For instance another option is federal government with regions/districts headed by governors/premiers & executive mayors as opposed to District/Commissioners as envisaged by both BCP & UDC. This would offload the burden from MPs who will then focus on law formulation. The debate presupposes that BCP/UDC will follow the BDP governing structure hence unreasonable persistence by moderators that candidates should focus on local issues/agenda which is also the mandate of councils. How does an mp create employment locally disregarding their party manifesto? The structure of the debate in all radios & Btv by & large promote BDP, then incumbents & stifle debate hence closing out new ideas especially from The Alternative. Moderators refuse panelists to go personal; what is wrong with that coz morality is part & parcel of leadership? Some moderators r less knowledgeable of politics & or issues (at least Gabzfm does some research on area under scrutiny), therefore their limitations limit debates. Incumbents are naturally advantaged & can exaggerate their contributions, until constituency has changed hands between parties & the incumbent face off with the former mp, then the exaggeration becomes apparent. In the ongoing debates BCP is more reliant on manifesto, BDP on incumbency & being the governing party while UDC on umbrella. The question then becomes has ideology been thrown out of the window as issues keeps crisscrossing between parties?
