#6265 On the topic of street art, Why is it that when you alter the state of something in the public view, without permission, it is considered vandalism ? But when somebody pays to alter the state of our surroundings, be its the government, a buisness, or a third party, it is considered development ? Why is it that the expression of the human spirit can be considered a crime while a suppression of it, for monetary value, is considered a societal standard ? To produce art in a public space should always be respected by the governmental the people of our city, the unbelievable penalties with regards to street art in calgary are unbelievable and pathetic. Perhaps if the attitude was not so derogatory to graffiti, the graffiti would not be so aggressive towards the general public. The lack of appreciation has only let grow a hatred between two communities. Respect street art and graffiti, and it will respect the society which it resids in. No more of this gang bullshit, no more of this two story hose tag bullshit. This city needs artists to have proper room to express themselves (more than just power boxes) , and the artists need to use it properly. We need graffiti. We need self expression as a society. Grant us this privilege and your city will grow with beautiful artwork, encouraging tourism, open-mindedness and social/cultural value. Continue to restrict us and we will continue attack your city with destructive and meaningless garbage. I am tired of seeing this cycle of hatred, lets be done with it.
