#8 Porco Rosso This was honestly really difficult for me to put at #8, mostly because I couldnt decide which I liked more, this or My Neighbor Totoro. I ultimately went with Porco Rosso for a few reasons. One of those reasons is the characters. This isnt a very fantasy-filled movie, unlike the majority of Miyazakis films. This is a movie almost entirely character-driven. Porco by himself is actually quite boring, but I noticed as I watched that the more I saw him interact with others, the more interesting of a character he was himself. His relationships with the rest of the cast help keep this film from being a really boring movie about a flying pig. The other thing that made me pick this over Totoro and probably my biggest positive for this film would be the planes. I myself am not a plane person. Im not even a car person. However, its really easy to see when watching this movie that Miyazaki did his research, and then some. There is a TON of passion that was dumped into this movie, particularly into the planes and in keeping them as accurate and practical as possible. If you watch through Miyazakis movies, youll begin to see that theres almsot always parts where the main character is flying on some kind of machine, or via magical means. Like I said, Im not a plane person at all, but I can respect the amount of passion that went into this film, AND make it not overbearing and make it overshadow the rest of the movie. https://youtube/watch?v=-umP_1oBNSk
