#93 on my list of reasons the HARPER GOVERNMENT pisses me off (with thanks to Roger for twigging me to it): In another HARPER GOVERNMENT travesty, buried within the 475 pages of omnibus Bill C- in the true pusillanimous fashion for which his government will be remembered, the new CONSERVATIVE PRESIDIUM is gutting the oversight contained in the Environmental Assessment Act 2012 and the Species at Risk Act by allowing cabinet to turn federal land around coal and liquid natural gas ports and terminals over to local port authorities so environmental review of port expansions or the creation of new shipping facilities can be bypassed… AND it gives the knobs in the federal cabinet extensive powers to write new laws for ports, and to delegate law-making powers for ports TO ANY PERSON, without many checks and balances. The government will be able, WITHOUT PUBLIC SCRUTINY, to simply wave their capitalist wands and convert federal land into port land which is exempt from environmental oversight… Come 2015: Imagine theres no HARPER...
