[A Comment Somewhere Else] Everything has a relative meaning. Murtad, Irtidad, Tardeed have emanated from a continuous discourse where those who feel short of arguments, like to stand upon. Avicenna was Murtad for likes of those who viewed al-Ghazali as an authority on Islam. Ashariites ridiculed and labelled Muatizilies as Murtad. But, I have read conservative scholars Like Shaikh Muhammad Zakaria Saharanpuri referring to Wasil bin Atta, a lead scholar of Muatzila, as blessed one. An ordinary maulvi may have a label as last recourse, when arguments exhaust. Otherwise, discourse has an inherent beauty. Religion is deeply social and anthropocentric manifestation of fear of unknown. It has come from centuries to this day justifying the fears and offering some kind of relief in a shape of consolable assurance. It is debatable to justify those assurances or falsify their mystique. So, any discussion which rules out the other has inherent weakness. This is not going to end with silly arguments in favour of and against the contestation. So, what is required is a true spirit of inquiry? Will it occur to us? Perhaps, not! - Zarmeena Hassan Baloch.
