****A MESSAGE TO SHERIFF SCHULTZ**** The following letter was sent to Sheriff Robert (Bobby) Schultz this week. While most deputies do not do things with the intent of getting recognition, it is heart warming that the deeds of our law enforcement( as described and relayed by the author of this letter) does not go unnotice and is appreciated on many levels. Thankfully, acts of kindness such as this are not uncommon in Gilchrist County nor or they uncommon to be carried out by the Gilchrist County Sheriffs Office. * At the writers and deputys request, parts of the letter has been edited in order to keep both names anonymous and details about the address of the residence from being made public.* I hope you and your family had a wonderful Christmas. Im writing to tell you about something that happened at my house on Christmas Eve. My house sat empty for quite some time after my ex husband passed away, while I was struggling to make arrangements to move back home. The first thing I did was have an alarm system installed, since I am severely disabled and live alone. Now that you know my back story, heres what happened on Christmas Eve. I was at a friends house having dinner when the alarm company called to tell me the front door burglar alarm went off. I instructed them to call GCSO because I was away at the moment. I left the dinner, with a friend to check on my house. Apparently the wind blew the door open. I had no way to lock it because of a pre existing issue. I and explained as much to the deputy who met me in my driveway. I went back to finish my holiday dinner with friends and family. Not long after dinner, the alarm company called again, but I didnt have enough signal to take the call, so headed home for the evening, intending to cancel the call to GCSO once I got there. Your dispatcher **********, said she was going to patch me over to the deputy because he wanted to speak to me directly before cancelling the call. I was patched to and spoke to Deputy **********. I explained to him that everything was OK, then told him of the earlier call, and the fact that I cannot close or lock my door properly due to damage from a previous issue. This wonderful angel of an officer volunteered to install a lock on my door, and said hed be happy to do so the following day.... CHRISTMAS DAY!!! He said he carried the needed tools in his car and would gladly do it for my peace of mind. Later it dawned on me that he volunteered to leave family and/or friends behind just to help me, a stranger to him, feel safe! I didnt call the office as he suggested, because I am able to lock the house from inside, and didnt want to disrupt his day. What a wonderful young man he is!! Who does that?? No one Ive met ANYWHERE except home in Gilchrist county!! He said he could come on Monday if yesterday was inconvenient for ME!! I was floored!! He he was about to sacrifice part of his Christmas Day, and he was concerned about MY convenience. WOW! Now I know that the years I spent struggling to get back home were completely worth the effort! Im in my late fifties now, and disabled as I mentioned earlier, but I know I can live out the rest of my life safe and secure in my own home. Even tho my little house is deep in the woods of my 5 acres, I never feel creepy or worried because the good guys are on my side!! Thank you all for allowing me to feel that way. I sleep confidently at night because you have told me yourself not to hesitate to call if I felt uneasy. A thousand thanks to you and everyone on staff at GCSO. You truly are the best. :)
