***A SMILE A DAY*** A journalist had done a story on gender roles in Kuwait several years before the Gulf War, and she noted then that women customarily walked about 10 feet behind their husbands. She returned to Kuwait recently and observed that the men now walked several yards behind their wives. She approached one of the women for an explanation. This is marvelous, said the journalist. What enabled the women to achieve this reversal of roles? Replied the Kuwaiti woman: Land mines! Lesson we learn, Allah has clearly instructed that, “Men are the protectors and maintainers of women, (Ayah No. 34, Surah An-Nisa) However this does don’t mean pride is permissible, with Prophet (pbuh) saying; “Whoever has pride in his heart equal to the weight of a mustard seed shall not enter Paradise.” Someone asked, “A person likes to wear beautiful clothes and fine shoes.” He replied, “Allah is beautiful and likes beauty. Pride means rejecting the truth and looking down on other people.” [Sahih Muslim] In saying that, women should allow their husband be the protector as it is stated in the above Ayah, rather than trying to be a housewife and protector at the same time. Men, walk infront of a woman not with pride, rather with honour and protection. facebook/eidshow twitter/eidshow Instagram/eidshow
