***A SMILE A DAY*** A man and his ten-year-old son were on a fishing trip away from home. They decided to attend the Friday prayer at a small rural mosque. The father forgot to bring any cash, so he reached in his pocket and gave his son one dollar to drop in the donation box. As they walked back to their car after the prayer, the father complained. The sermon was too long, he lamented. The sermon was boring”. Finally the boy said, Daddy, I thought it was pretty good for one dollar!!! Lesson we learn, The reminder aspect of a Friday sermon is very important, as clearly appears when we read the following Hadith: “When the Prophet gave a sermon, his eyes became red and his voice loud. He would sound angry as though he was addressing an army. He would then say: “The Last Hour is about to overtake you, next morning or next evening.’ He would also say: ‘I have been sent with my message as close to the Last Hour as these two fingers, (pointing with two of his fingers). The best guidance is Muhammad’s, and the worst matters are those introduced without basis, and every deviation is erroneous.” (Related by Muslim, Ibn Majah and others). We do ask off our Sermon givers to please make Friday prayer very catchy and educational, however this isn’t a movie or a sporting match. The words being spoken are reality. So please lend an attentive ear to the Imam as the Prophet (pbuh) asked for in his final sermon.
