"A little longer post, but the Director of Dog By Dog Christopher E. Grimes wanted to give you some of his thoughts on the film and ultimately the goal he has for the documentary: While many social or economic issues seem to divide the population of the United States, outside of the individuals that economically benefit from puppy mills is there really a measurable "pro-puppy mill" segment of the population? A recent national poll found that 78% of consumers would not purchase a puppy from a pet store if they knew it came from a puppy mill (Lake Research Partners, 2011). Clearly this would indicate that an overwhelming majority of the population opposes the unsanitary and often cruel conditions found in most large-scale dog breeding operations. Usually if 80% of the population agrees on anything, politicians will seemingly jump over each other to get in front of the issue. Why has this not been the case with regulation / enforcement of puppy mills? Do puppy mill operators have the political clout and money to influence this debate or are they being financially supported by other entities hiding in the shadows? This is the central focus of DOG BY DOG. Over the course of the past year, the DBD team have been conducting extensive research into FEC Campaign Finance Reports, IRS Section 501(c)3 Non-Profit Public Disclosure Forms, Corporate & Non-Profit Annual Reports, USDA AWA Inspection Records and countless State Inspection Reports. In DOG BY DOG we will demonstrate a clear, direct, and understandable connection between puppy mills, politicians, and the other entities that are currently blocking common-sense dog welfare legislation. I believe that there have been some excellent documentaries that have admirably exposed the public to the sickening underworld of puppy mills. In DOG BY DOG I want to move beyond the conditions in the mills and expose those responsible for allowing them to remain in business. I believe a concise and broad examination of the shadowy monetary influence that has stifled common-sense legislation in the past will finally be exposed to the American public. While I have interviewed the foremost experts on this issue, at the heart of DOG BY DOG is our original investigative research. In my last documentary, A Second Knock at the Door (ASKATD), we brought to light the terrible treatment the families of soldiers killed by friendly fire had endured. As was the case with ASKATD and the Pentagon, we are sure to displease some vary large organizations in DOG BY DOG, but luckily we have some very good lawyers that believe in our goal. We have already had some preliminary discussions with some of the major cable networks concerning DOG BY DOG. We received a national distribution deal with Cinema Libre studios and ASKATD can be purchased online from nearly every major retailer in the US and found streaming on Netflix, Blockbuster, and Hulu. Simply put, I will deliver this film to a national audience. I truly believe that education is the key to closing the mills. By bringing sunlight into the corrupt corners that have influenced this debate, I believe we can have a measurable and positive affect for dogs that have suffered for far to long. Please join us in helping to get DOG BY DOG made. Whether $1 or $5000, I am grateful for your support. Sincerely, Christopher"
