(A long one. Read only if you are bored. lol) Hair carries energy. Its a message in so many ways. As a black woman I can write an encyclopedia about my relationship with my hair. In 1997, I had a huge Aha! Moment and me and my natural hair fell in love with each other. Weve been together ever since. My dreads came later around 2000. I call myself a Wild Woman, because I INSIST on being me as I define it, which fits perfectly with my Gemini spirit, because my definitions are ever changing. Stagnation and I are arch enemies!! lol. The wig photo was interesting for me in a thousand different ways. Its amazing how putting it on (and there were others) bumped me right into my MOTHERS face! I walk this earth marked as a Bailey! That Frederiksted blood runs deep in my veins. Hearing the words, You is Bernie Bailey Dahtah! Ayo Bailey cyant hide! Yo look just like yo faddah! Is part of my genetic consciousness. But I am also VERY much my mother. And I SEE HER in that wig photo in ways that are TOO pronounced. What a gift of woman confirmation. My friends responses were the most interesting! What a gamut of reactions. (As always my friend Bashy had the most hilarious reaction. Followed by I love you and think you are gorgeous no matter what yo crazy R@$$ put on your head! Lol) My answer remained the same, Its still me!! Im still your Tanisha! lol. My husband just chalked it up to me being me (although he definitely prefers natural me). All this to say, be comfortable doing something uncomfortable...something completely different!! Something that takes you outside the definitions you normal carry. Hold your mysteries in your hands and savor the idea that you just dont know how those self-definitions will shift! And when you see me rocking my wigs, just smile and say, I love her self-definitions!! :) Power Day to you!!
