::: A woman is like a “rib”, so don’t attempt to “straighten” her ::: Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “Take my advice with regard to women: Act kindly towards women, for they were created from a rib, and the most crooked part of a rib is its uppermost. If you attempt to straighten it; you will break it, and if you leave it alone it will remain crooked; so act kindly toward women.” [Narrated by al-Bukhari and Muslim] In another narration, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) is reported to have said: “A woman is like a rib, if you attempt to straighten it, you will break it [and breaking her is divorcing her]; and if you benefit from her, you will do so while crookedness remains in her.” [Narrated by al-Bukhari and Muslim] Points of Benefit: This Hadith (Prophetic tradition) emphasizes on the importance of good and kind treatment to women from the parts of men, particularly from the part of the husbands. Men and women have been created differently in terms of their physical and psychological formation. As a consequence, men should be considerate enough to accommodate for these differences, otherwise it may not be possible for a man and a woman to live together as husband and wife under the same roof.
