*** A word of caution regarding telephone call scams*** If you receive a call from a foreign sounding male, or female, telling you that you have a problem with your ‘Windows’ package, be warned. This is a scam. Their latest trick is to tell you that they want to reimburse you the money paid to cover your ‘extended’ warranty (?). Our advice is to quickly hang up. There is a suggestion that there is also some attempt at reverse call charging going on in the background. Watch out for calls that …… (if you have number recognition) where the number is ‘withheld’ or shows a foreign prefix [sometimes 044 (UK)]. However, as soon as the caller starts talking ‘BS’ about your computer you’ll know. It’s a SCAM! They tell you to turn on your PC and go to the control panel etc. etc. The calls can last up to fifteen minutes and then they try to get you to purchase a package over the phone with your credit card…… DON’T. Hang Up immediately you realise what the call is about.
